"I Don't Want to Get Well"

by Van and Schenck

Sheet Music Cover courtesy of the Lester Levy Collection Gus Van and Joe Schenck were a duo, in the mold of Collins and Harlan, who were featured in Zigfeld's Follies from 1916 through the early 20's as well as being featured performers on early radio. This recording, made in late 1917 for Victor, was one of their first "hits". The lyrics were written by Howard Johnson and Harry Pease, with music by Harry Jentes. It was a World War One song of a different stripe - about staying in the infirmary for the sake of a lovely nurse - a backhanded tribute to the work of Florence Nightengale! (Further info about Van and Schenck can be found - where else? - at Tim Gracyk's web site.)
