Fiddler Elton Britt, who during WWII would sing the patriotic song "There's a Star Spangled Banner Flying Somewhere" and also make a run at the US Presidency in 1960, is heard playing fiddle here in one of his first recordings.
One of Elton's brothers, either Vern or Alf, is on the guitar for this side. It was recorded on August 9 of 1933, issued on the Conqueror label, and marketed through the Sears catalog. It's a very good performance and adheres to
the roots of old-time fiddling before Country music became another corporate metaphor. The disc was in great shape and, after some EQ to take out the harshness of the prototype electrical equipment used to record it, the record
sounds quite nice. (For more information about Elton Britt, go to the "Encyclopedia of Arkanasas".)
