These guys were a sensation on record throughout the late 20's. The group included Franklyn Baur, Lewis James, Elliott Shaw, Wilfred Glenn and Ed Smalle, all of them recording veterans. They mixed basic Barbershop harmony with some
Jazz sensibility and took group singing to a new and joyous level. In Europe their records had a profound impact - Germany's answer to the Revellers was the
"Comedian Harmonists", who made musical history of their own. The song, written by Willard Robison and Joe Trent in 1929, was recorded by many artists - the
Revellers' rendition for Victor is one of the more imaginative. This particular copy was played quite a lot in its time, but it still has some life left in it. (a CD of the Revellers' recordings is available in Germany - more info
can be found here.)
