This entertaining song was written by Paul West (lyrics) and John W. Bratton (music), and was featured in a musical called "The Office Boy" which opened on Broadway in November of 1903 (see the
"Internet Broadway Database" for more info). Recording pioneer Bob Roberts recorded it for Columbia sometime in late 1903 or early 1904. The
surface noise on this disc has been tamed into moderation, restoring some of the original clarity despite the obvious wear. The bass response on this early disc is actually quite good - worlds away from the sound that acoustic
Columbias typically exhibited a decade later.
