"Stealing To Virginia"

by Isham Jones and his orchestra

Chicago's answer to Paul Whiteman was at the peak of his powers when this side was record for Brunswick on October 12 of 1923. Gus Kahn (co-wrote "It Had To Be You" with Isham) and Walter Donaldson (also co-wrote "I've Had My Moments" with Gus) had a minor hit with this and it was recorded by many bands through late 1923 and early 1924. Isham gives it is usual jazzy dance-music polish and the band sets it rolling. By the end they get going pretty good. This copy was reasonably clean, except for some increased noise at the end (from being played), and responded well to noise reduction without sacrificing its vivid presence.
