Just about every tune the Ernest L. Stevens Trio did for Edison Labs sounded like this - the same tempo and the same straight-ahead four-beat dance arrangement - but it's a likeable sound and very well recorded, sporting more bass response than acoustic records
usually have. This was the second of two accepted takes made on November 12 of 1923. The tune was written by Harold Orlob (the guy who really wrote the melody for the evergreen "I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now", rather than the singer Joe Howard who tried
to take all the credit). The record got played some in its life, and shows some groove stress toward the end, but for the most part the grooves are quiet and noise reduction was used sparingly.
