"You're The Sweetest Girl in All the World"

by Harry Raderman's Jazz Orchestra

Marion Stanford only seems to have written this one song in 1921 and then vanished. Benny Davis and J. Russell Robinson (best known for their hit "Margie") wrote the other tune in this medley, an obscure one called "Ruby" (recorded by Vincent Lopez on Columbia, but nobody else that I've found). Edison Labs waxed this performance on May 3 of 1921. Stanford's tune was a minor hit in its time, recorded most notably by Paul Whiteman on Victor, but also by the Happy Six for Columbia, the Yerkes Floatilla Orchestra on Vocalion and Max Fell's Della Robbia band on Pathé. Harry Raderman's band made this bright-sounding record for Edison, and while it is typical for the period i.e. no solos and stylistically locked, the performance is good and precise as Raderman's sides usually are. The surface of this record hadn't had much wear so only light noise reduction was necessary.
