This classic by Fred Rose, Peter L. Frost, & George A. Little was recorded many times, notably by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band (an one-minute sample of that recording can be found at the
Hi-FIDO site). When the Okeh label wanted to release a version of it in January of 1921 they chose Joseph Samuels to record it for them. A violinist,
as were many leaders at that time (Paul Whiteman included), his main talent was organizing good musicians. This is a cheery record, as cheery as the blues gets anyway, and very good recording quality for the vintage. Aside from some wear
in the louder spots, this is a relatively clean example. (More sound samples of this band can be found at the Red Hot Jazz Archive.)
