The irrepressible Ben Selvin was waving his baton for this side, recorded on November 14 of 1928, making him one of the last to make acoustically-recorded records. This appeared in the Velvet-Tone catalog as well as the
original Harmony label (as the name of the band implies), and this sample is from the Velvet-Tone release. Arthur Hall handles the vocal in this relatively sophisticated arrangement which smacks of both an Ellington and
Henderson influence. The soulful clarinet breaks, as brief as they are, are a highlight here. The record was played a lot in its time, so crackle was an issue, but repeated runs through clickRepair made a much nicer sample
out of it. Some EQ was also performed to bring out some more of the natural tone color.
