"My Sunny Tennessee"

by Bennie Krueger's Orchestra

Sheet Music Cover courtesy of UCLA Library Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby (who would write such classics as "Who's Sorry Now", "Three Little Words", and "I Wanna Be Loved By You") had their first hit with this number, published in late 1921. Gennett recorded this side on October 18 of that year. The band turns in a nice performance here, though certainly a product of its time - it was played in the slow-ish dance tempo popular after Paul Whiteman's "Whispering" sold millions - the tune doesn't suffer for it, though, sounding as though it was rendered in the tempo the composers intended. The record is a bit noisy in the middle, due to some heat blisters, and while this was tamed it was not removed entirely - just enough to bring the music out from behind the static. (Harry Raderman's recording of this song for Okeh can be heard elsewhere in this archive.)
