"I Would Rather Be Alone In The South"

by the Happiness Boys

Billy Jones and Ernest Hare recorded this song at least three times - once for Victor in August of 1925, again for Okeh in November, and this recording for Edison on October 9th of that same year. Written by Norman Vause, who also wrote "Answer" in 1921, this was one of thousands of songs that were written about "nostalgia for the southland" - it was guaranteed to strike a nerve with the crowd, and Vaudeville performers loved to sing them. Edison released this one on both disc and cylinder; this is the disc copy, and in great condition so only a small amount of noise reduction was used.
