On February 5 of 1927, pianist Duke Yellman and his band recorded three tunes for Edison Labs: this was the first of those three. An early take of a popular tune that Yellman himself co-wrote with vocalist Joe Schuster,
called "Take Your Finger out of Your Mouth (I want a Kiss From You)," was also made at this session but rejected: it would be re-recorded for Edison and released a month later. This song was written by Raymond Hubbell (wrote
music for many Hippodrome shows including "Hip-Hip-Hooray" and "Cheer Up") with Anne Caldwell (wrote the book for several musicals during the 1910s including "Chin-Chin" and "Lady of the Slipper"). The band was a bit sloppy
around the edges, as though they'd been up late the night before, but it is a fun record. The disc from which this was sampled was in very nice shape, and didn't need much more than rumble removal.
