"Down Among the Sleepy Hills of Tennessee"

by Blossom Seeley

Written by the team of George W. Meyer (music, composer of "For Me And My Gal") with Sam M. Lewis and Joe Young (lyrics, authors of "Rock-a-bye Your Baby With a Dixie Melody"), this song was popular enough to be recorded many times in early 1923. No version was quite so spirited as Blossom Seeley's, however, which Columbia recorded on March 28 of that year. She was a good "belter" in the best Vaudeville sense, and she belts this one mightily. The disc from which this sample is taken has suffered with time, with both wear and scratches, but it cleaned up reasonably well and is now presented for your listening pleasure.
