"I'm Sitting On Top of the World"

by The Radio Franks

Usually one heard these early radio pioneers with a piano in the background, but in this waxing for Edison Labs (on October 22, 1925) they're being supported with a full orchestra. This was from their second session for Edison, and they would make the occasional record for them up into 1928. The song they're singing, an evergreen from the moment of publication, was written by Tinpan Alley greats Ray Henderson (co-author of "Bye Bye Blackbird"), Sam Lewis and Joe Young (who together co-wrote "Mammy", the song that put Al Jolson on the map). This is the only recording I've heard that features both verses of the song. The record itself had been played some, and while there was some minor groove damage it was easily treated with noise reduction.
