"Oh Say Can I See You tonight?"

by That Singing Four

Taking their inspiration from the Revellers and other such vocal groups of the mid 20s, this quartet added a touch of modern hucksterism to traditional harmonies and dance rhythms. I don't know who was in this group, but they recorded four sides for Edison and vanished. This was the second of those four, waxed on August 6 of 1925, singing a song written by Henry Creamer (also the co-author of "After You've Gone"), Leon Flatow (writer of "Everbody Loves a Jass Band"), and Joe Schuster (vocalist for Duke Yellman's orchestra who also co-wrote "Maybe, Who Knows?"). This tune, written around a playful pun on the "Star Spangled Banner", didn't get recorded much so the tune is just as obscure as the guys singing it. The record from which this was sampled looked great, but had some crackle in it that needed taming with noise reduction.
