Milton Ager (co-author of "Freckles" and "Crazy Words Crazy Tune") and Benny Davis (prolific through the 20s, co-wrote "Baby Face" and "It's a Million To One You're In Love") wrote this minor hit in 1925. Paul Specht and his
band recorded this nicely hyper version for Columbia's newly-christened electrical process on June 19th of that year. The personnel playing in "the Georgians," a semi-legendary white recording group on Columbia (many of their
recordings are on the Red Hot Jazz Archive), were pulled from Specht's band in much the same way that the Virginians were part of the Paul Whiteman band.
There are no real solos here, in true Hotel dance band form, except for entirely too brief bursts from the piano and trumpet player. The disc that yielded this sample had been played harshly in its time, so there was lots of
crackle, and several passes with clickRepair made it much better. (An interesting read about Paul Specht's performances in England are detailed at the
Dance Band Enclyclopedia web site.)
