Victor Arden on piano, George Hamilton Green on xylophone, and Wheeler Wadsworth on sax formed one of the more active recording trios during the time between late Ragtime and early Jazz. This side, recorded for Okeh in November of
1920, is a conservative arrangement that grows on the listener gradually. The tune, written by Grant Clark (co-author of "Ragtime Cowboy Joe" as well as "He'd Have to Get Out and Get Under") and J.Louis Merkur (worked as arranger for
M-G-M and co-wrote "I Lost My Heart to You"), is very much in the fashion of late Ragtime. The record from which this was sampled was played on some unforgiving equipment once, but aside from some groove damage at the start it plays
pretty smoothly. Noise reduction was used lightly where needed. (Another one of their tunes, "Just Blue", can be heard on the "Thomas Edison's Attic" show
for August 24 of 2004.)
