"Along the Rainbow Trail"

by the Stevens Trio

George W. Meyer (who also co-wrote such classics as "For Me and My Gal" and "Mandy") wrote this song in 1923. This is one of the few recordings of it, done for Edison Labs on November 23 of that year by the venerable Ernest L. Stevens and his trio (with Moses Aron and Charles J. Murray, not sure which was playing banjo or sax, but Ernest Stevens is certainly on piano). Just about everything they recorded had the four-beat bouncy tempo featured here, and this obscure song's melody does not suffer for it. The record from which this was sampled had been played many times, so there was some groove stress in spots, and a light touch of noise reduction was applied to reduce that effect.
