Dance music was just changing from the four-beat style (best exemplified in Paul Whiteman's "Whispering") to the two-beat style ("Collegiate" by Waring's Pennsylvanians to name one) when this was recorded by the Strand Hotel's house band on March
23, 1925. Jack Yellen and Milton Ager had just written the tune and, though it wasn't a big hit, the local bands in New York did play it for a while. Edison Labs was in the habit of selecting New York Hotel bands to record, and this is a good example
of the musicianship these now-obscure bands usually exhibited. The vocalist may or may not be Vernon Dalhart, going by the name of Bud Kennedy, and he veers slightly into "ham" territory here (though his approach is still musical, and not untypical of the era).
This particular Diamond Disc was in very clean shape except for some damage at the outer edge, and after some noise reduction that damage has been reduced to tolerable levels.
