This side has not been reissued yet, though many of this band's recordings have been re-released on CD (specifically on "Timeless Records").
Recorded for Cameo on April 28, 1924, the arrangement on this side is in the psuedo-Arabian style which was very much "in vogue" from the discovery of Tut's tomb up until the Charleston caught dancer's attention (1920-1926). Ihe tune was
written by the songwriting team of Gus Kahn and bandleader Isham Jones, the same guys that gave us the standard "It Had To Be You". On the record, the personnel was culled from the
"California Ramblers" and likely includes a young Tommy Dorsey on trombone, Adrian Rollini on bass sax, and (of course) Red Nichols on trumpet. The disc from which this was sampled was played very little, and was clean as a result unlike
many of the Cameos I've found in my travels. Noise reduction was only used to take out groove hiss and the occasional click or pop. (More details about this band can be found at the
Red Hot Jazz Archive.)
