"He Ain't Done Right by Nell"

by Art Gillham ("the Whispering Pianist")

Radio spawned an entire generation of genteel crooners who, by virtue of their quiet delivery, would have been ill-suited for traditional Vaudeville but were right at home in an electronic medium. Art Gillham was one of the first, and the most influential, though he's largely forgotten today. The song and delivery are delightful examples of deadpan humor. The surface was pretty rough to start with, but it responded nicely to noise reduction. (A thorough bio of Art Gillham, and another sound sample, can be found at the website of George Blau.)
