Something of a Country fiddling masterpiece, this particular side doesn't seem to have been reissued yet so I'm presenting it here. It was recorded for the Conqueror label, as all of their records were, on August 8 of 1933 - this was the last side
issued of six total. The song, written in 1855 by Septimus Winner (a prolific songwriter, best known for "Ten Little Indians" and "Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?") and Richard Milburn (a black man who Septimus had hired to work in his music store,
and later became a barber). Elton Britt, who would later sing several hits for RCA including "Quicksilver" amd "Jimmie Rogers Blues," is the fiddle player on this record and his brother Vern is probably accompanying him on guitar: emails with correct information
are always welcome. This disc was in extremely good condition, being played maybe once or twice in its life if at all, so there was only clicks, pops, and normal groove hiss to remove. (More info can be found about Septimus Winner at
Bea Fifer's site and at the Keffer Collection.)
