Performing here are the same personnel as the Columbia Quartet, that being John Meyer (bass), Henry Burr (lead), Albert Campbell (tenor), and Arthur Collins (baritone), in September of 1911 on a Columbia 12-inch disc. If you
know minstrel shows, with their bad jokes and thoughtless racial stereotyping, then there will be no surprises about what's on this record. While this style of entertainment has not aged well, to put it mildly, one must realize
that this was accepted and welcomed back when this record was new. The surprise is the presence of Henry Burr who was not otherwise known for such performances. The "Dusky Rose" song in the middle is the highlight of the record,
particularly for those who study traditional Barbershop harmony. The disc itself was played more than a few times, but the damage was slight and noise reduction made the recording more palatable.
