"I'm Gonna Do It If I Like It"

by Marion Harris

Irving Berlin's classic ode to the rebellious teenage girl, which proves that nothing really changes (though not as many things got pierced in those days), gets a rollicking treatment from Marion Harris. Her star was shining brightly on the Vaudeville stage when this was recorded on December 30 of 1920. Columbia recording engineers did themselves proud on this one - there's a naturalness to Marion's tone here that wasn't always achieved in the acoustic recording studio. The band sounds good too. The surface of the disc was a bit noisy, and some of the noise remains, though the decision was made to leave it like this rather than to remove any more - the quality of the original recording is unfettered in this sample.
