"Learning"

by Banjo Wallace's Orchestra

Co-written by Sophie Tucker, along with Jules Buffano (bandleader, writer of "Thanks For the Buggy Ride" and "Wop Blues") and Jim Steiger (co-wrote "Looking At The World Through Rose-Colored Glasses"), this obscure tune from 1920 was recorded by an equally obscure regional band for Okeh records in February of 1921. According to the Brian Rust discography (thanks to Tom Hennessey for relaying the info) this band recorded five sides total. To judge from this recording it was a decent outfit, though they do have a tendency to ratchet the tempo up as the tune progresses. The surface of this particular copy was in nice shape except for some needle wear in the beginning. Noise reduction was applied sparingly, and its full tone (good for the period) is brought out with a little EQ.
