"No One But You (Knows How To Love)"

by the Twin City Bell Hops

This soulful number is the flip-side to the other "Twin City" tune, but you'd never know it. It's a different orchestra entirely - "Johnny Sylvester & His Orchestra" - a reconstituted "Indiana Five". It features the added attraction of trombonist Eddie Edwards (from the "Original Dixieland Jass Band") who sat in on this number. The vocalist is definitely not one of the "studio professional singers" that haunted early Jazz sides, and that's refreshing. The record itself had some crackly surface noise, with the added complication of a reduced-volume vocal refrain, but it was not played heavily so I could go light on the noise reduction and wind up with a nice-sounding sample. (Thanks to Bob Celaschi of Sacramento for relaying info from the Rust discography - further reading about the Indiana Five and the ODJB is on-line at the Red Hot Jazz Archive.)
