"You're In Kentucky Sure As You're Born"

by Henry Santrey and his Cameo Record Orchestra

From this obscure orchestra comes a rousing version of this hit from late 1923, written by Haven Gillespie, George A. Little and Larry Shay (a vocal version can be found elsewhere in these archives). Nearly every label had a recording of this tune. This particular orchestra, obviously limited to the Cameo label, was unknown to me until I found this record. It's a good band, and they play this number joyously. The disc from which this sample was taken had been treated roughly in its life, suffering scratches as well as wear, and after trial and error with different needles a relatively clean sample was obtained - noise reduction was used to good benefit.
