"Down at Finnegan's Jamboree"

by Charles D'Almaine and Company

The "Company" described here includes Ada Jones, Len Spencer, and a few dozen other people hanging around Edison's studios in 1913. Charles D'Almaine was the violinist, a recording pioneer active since the late 1890's, and though his name is prominant he doesn't do much else but play the fiddle. Despite the obvious cultural stereotyping, there's no harm meant by it. This is a fun record - the "Riverdance" competition at the end is a highlight. The surface of this Amberol cylinder is scratchy at times, but responds well to noise reduction treatment. (An alternate take of this cylinder can be heard over at UCSB Special Collection.)
