This nearly perfect example of Tin Pan Alley songcraft was written to great acclaim in 1925 by Cliff Friend (co-wrote "Tell Me With Smiles" and the huge hit "You Tell Her - I Stutter"), Sidney Clare (was the lyricist for "Ma! He's Makin' Eyes At Me" and "I'm
Missin' Mammy's Kissin'"), and Lew Brown (co-author of "Don't Bring Lulu" and "Sonny Boy"). It has become a standard since then, and has been recorded hundreds of times. This version, by the radio pioneer duet of Frank Bessinger and Frank Wright (accompanied
by Frank Banta Jr. on piano) is simply stated with nothing added - it lets the song itself take center stage. It was recorded for Brunswick in December of 1925, with their prototype electical recording equipment, so there is some distortion here. The record
itself had been played quite a lot so there were some issues with groove static: that has been tamed with noise reduction for your listening pleasure.
