Composed by West-Coast bandleader Abe Lyman and his orchestra's trumpeter Ray Lopez, this tune was a hit for Lyman's orchestra (the Brunswick recording of their rendition is elsewhere in these archives) - big
enough that other labels felt a need to release a version of it. This is Edison's version, recorded on April 24 of 1924. It's rather more vibrant and lively than the usual Edison side. Whoever is working the plunger on the trumpet is doing a pretty good
Clyde McCoy impersonation, and provides a highlight of the record. The disc from which this was sampled was played with a wrong needle once, and part of the clarinet solo in the first minute had to be cut out of the sample due to needle damage. The rest of
it played OK, and despite some wear near the end it is still a very pleasant record.
