Vocalist Irving Kaufman had a chance to go "over the top" here, giving us an urban version of this Country classic, and he took it & ran with it. To hear a dance band do this song sounds strange, but after the strangeness wears off it turns out to be an
entertaining (and, yes, danceable) recording. This was issued on the Perfect label, and a few others such as Domino, from a session by Adrian Schubert's band on May 27 of 1930. The brief solos by trumpet, baritone sax, violin, and accordion (!) are highlights
along with Kaufman's delightful hucksterism. It would have made a great soundtrack for a Max Fleischer cartoon. The record had some heat blisters at the beginning, but they fade away after the first minute leaving a clean surface. Noise reduction was only
applied where necessary.
