"Fond Affection"

by Clarence Green

This may or may not be the same Clarence Green that recorded "Johnson Creek Blues" for Columbia a year or so after this record, which was made on November 5 of 1927, but since it's the same name for the same company I'm inclined to think it's the same guy. The lyrics tell a sad tale of breaking the heart of one's true love, performed almost shyly by Green who doubltessly was before a microphone for the very first time. The effect is slightly unnerving, but it's real. The record was in great shape, probably played only once, and needed only a brief once-over of noise reduction to tame rumble removal plus the occasional click.
