Written by Theodore Morse (music) and Edward Madden (lyrics) in 1904, this song was enough of a hit for Collins and Harlan to record it several times for various labels. Behind the awful puns, the lyrics take a playful swipe at Darwinism.
It's corny, but fun. This version was released on a Zonophone nine-inch disc. This copy shows signs of hard use in the past, and the surface noise took a fair amount of sound treatment to tame, but the results are quite listenable indeed.
