Co-written by Al Jolson, as seems natural somehow, along with his cohorts Buddy G. DeSylva and Con Conrad, this tune turned into a moderate-sized hit. This version by Isham Jones' band for Brunswick (recorded on May first
of 1923) suits the period and the tune very well. No stand-out soloists, though this was never Jones' style: the arrangement is typical of the dance bands that played in hotel ballrooms. Most of the early Ragtime influence
was still there but some hints of jazz were beginning to creep in. The record from which this was sampled was hardly played, only acquiring some hiss in the groove toward the end, and noise reduction was only employed lightly.
(More Isham Jones samples, and a write-up about the band's history, can be found at the "Red Hot Jazz" web site.)
