The acrobatics involved in playing a Zez Confrey number are made to sound easy in the hands of this gifted pianist. The second husband of Sophie Tucker, and bandleader based in Chicago (his band can be heard in samples over at
Red Hot Jazz.com), his artistry is amazing on this side and he does Confrey's composition up proud. The recording quality on this Columbia side, from
December 9 of 1922, is very nice and it helped that the record was in good shape. After removing some crackle, rumble, and a bit of EQ, this side comes to life before your very ears.
