A Diva release, recorded five days before the vocal version by the Four Aces (now elsewhere in these archives) in 1929, this was put on wax by a sub-group out of the Paul Specht orchestra. Similar to Paul
Whiteman's "Virginians," this would allow the larger orchestra to play for "polite" dancing in the large ballroom and the smaller group played the jazzier arrangements in an adjacent lounge. The vocalist on this record is
the drummer, Johnny Morris, and those familiar with the Four Aces version will note the different lyrics. The alto sax and piano breaks after the vocal trio are highlights. (For more audio samples of this group, see the
Red Hot Jazz Archive.) This disc had been played a bit, so there was some crackle. Noise reduction got rid of most of it.
