"On the Alamo"

by Al and Pete (The Inspiration Boys)

These two were evidently on radio in the Chicago area in the late 20s, made several sides for Brunswick, and their harmony is as close as it gets: Aside from that, I haven't been able to find out anything about them. Knowledgeable emails are welcome, as always. Their moniker of "Inspiration Boys" may have as much to do with their corporate sponsor as anything. This side, recorded in Chicago in June of 1929, is one of the first issued performances of a song that would become a jazz standard in later years, written by Isham Jones and Gus Kahn (the same pair that wrote "It Had to Be You" and "I'll See You in my Dreams"). The recording is very nice, as late twenties Brunswicks tended to be, and while the surface of the disc was hissy it had few scratches to treat.
