"Ain't We Got Fun?"

by Billy Jones

This was one of the best-known songs from the early 20s, recorded dozens of times when it was new and hundreds of times since. It was written by Gus Kahn (a member of the songwriter's hall of fame, partly responsible for such gems as "It Had to be You" and "Makin' Whoopee"), Richard Whiting (also very prolific, turned out "She's Funny That Way" as well as "My Future Just Passed"), and Ray Egan (co-wrote with Whiting, including "Sleepy Time Gal" and "The Japanese Sandman"). Billy Jones recorded this at least twice: a version for Vocalion (which can be heard at "DigitalHistory.com") and this version for Okeh, recorded in May of '21. The warm quality of the recording, something that Okeh was known for, plus Jones' clear and smooth delivery make this a very nice version. The record had not been played very much, so some crackle removal was really all that was needed here.
